1/13/2024 0 Comments Mini dozer md196kThere's so many hydraulic attachments one can rent or buy to put on for specific tasks. If one wants the most useful machine that's small and can do an lot of work, the tracked skid steer is by far the best. The hobby stuff is just too light for real work. I use the Yanmar tractor to dig the deep snow from around my parents house and property, and for garden work. All these small tractors and tiny dozers are for is hobby stuff around the house. I've got an small Yanmar 4wd tractor with rear back blade and removable rippers and PTO. The only other small machine able to do some decent work is an skid steer with tracks or one can put rubber tracks on the wheeled variety but the tracked version is still better. These size of machines are about as small as one wants to get if you seriously need to clean out lots or actually do a bit of work. Idaho and western Montana used for small logging operation and smaller timber. There's an lot of those old John Deere 450 type dozers in N. Have as much fun tinkering on it as operating and experiencing the operation as an extension of your self through the machine. Get accustomed to checking bolt tightness all around the unit particularly the battery box and connections. Tractors get bounced around a lot ,about like bouldering in a 4X or worse ,speeding a boat in choppy water. ( sometimes in the winter it can't be avoided) If you can avoid using it your further ahead. įor the first few weeks your going to loose track of time at play, this is OK just remember never to let it run out of fuel, restarting from empty injector and pump is a serious pain.ĭiesels get addicted to Ether, once used, and they do not like to start with out it. Take note of the tools it takes to maintain and replace parts. Usually they that borrow don't know how to operate or care for either. learn form their mistakes.ĭo not loan this tool, they will not fix it. Take some time watching other operators both in realtime and on you tube. Small bites are more easily digested, than trying to move the whole mountain at once. It had sunk up to the frame.īe diligent (obsessed)about greasing all zerk fittings. Also used the dozer and another tractor to get a tractor out of the mud. Also used it to do some "landscaping" of some spots in the fields to flatten a few high spots and fill in some low spots. No way you'd want to use a tractor to do something like that. We then used the dozer to shove them in to large holes we'd dug so they could be buried deep enough to not get hit by the plow any more. His brother had a backhoe that we used to dig out some of the larger rocks in the fields. Some of the other projects we used it for was moving boulders. If I am remembering correctly he basically broke even on it after all was said and done. During that time the motor got rebuilt once. Used it to dig the pond and do a few other projects around the farm, did some projects for some buddies, and hired it out for odd jobs on weekends for a year or two. WAAAAY back when I was a kid, Dad bought a farm and one of your first projects was digging a pond. Would probably work a lot better than a lawn I thought tracked vehicles of the same weight as a wheeled vehicle would pack the earth less as the weight is distributed over a much larger area rather than being concentrated on four points?Īnyway, dozers are great things if you have some work lined up. If it's just a matter off not having something with enough arse to pull a plow, have you ever considered going no-till? I know some guys that have big 4-wheelers that they've put an implement hitch on, too, for plowing their gardens. It'd pack the soil something awful, I'd think. If you are looking for a large-scale gardening (but not quite farming) tool, I am not sure I'd want to use a mini-dozer for that. It still beats the heck out of digging by hand, LOL. The bushings are all floppy and it leaks hydraulic fluid and snails can move down the road faster, but. Now I have an ancient and almost-completely-wore out Yanmar mini-excavator. It completely wore out and wasn't worth fixing, though. We took the winch off and welded some stuff onto it to run it off a 3-point hitch and a tractor PTO, but those tractors just aren't as stable when the logs start going where they shouldn't. It had a nice winch and was really good for skidding logs off the mountain way safer than using farm equipment to do it like I do now. We had an old Case mini-dozer when I was a youngin'.
